2.30am Saturday morning I got The Call. Massive surprise as I was not aware that I had been activated on The List. I later discovered that it had happened on the previous Thursday.
Went to the transplant unit, went through all the tests and waited. I had been told that it was a perfect match and that they had not called anyone else in.
8 hours later the surgeon came and told me that unfortunately they had not received the kidney within the viability time parameters and therefore it was wasted.
Went home, fell into bed totally exhausted both mentally and physically. Literally ten minutes later the phone rang. They had another offer for me but this time I was the backup, did i want to come in?. They said they could see what happened to me that day and it was perfectly ok to say no. Never thought I would do it but I said no. I could not go through all that again with no sleep in between.
Two offers in 2 days leaves me very optimistic.

Re: Almost mine
That is reassuring. I have been on the list over 2 years now. I did get one call but the transplant wasn't carried out as I had recently had a skin cancer removed.
Have you only just been placed on the list or had you been suspended for a while?
I hope you get another call very soon.

Re: Almost mine
What an emotional rollercoaster.
Such a shame that a perfect match kidney was wasted.
Good Luck for next time.
