Hello, I am new to this forum and wonder if anyone has any advice that would help. My husband has polycystic kidney disease aggravated by only having one kidney. He is currently at 5 o/o gfr and struggling.
He is not suitable for a transplant and has declined dialysis .
He sleeps 20 hours a day and has no energy at all.
Any advice or information would be great. I am finding it very hard.

Re: GFR 5 o/o
What reason doe's he have for rejecting dialysis?
I have PKD, and have been on Haemodialysis for five years, my life improved tremendously once I started on dialysis.
Also, going to the hospital and seeing other patients on dialysis, sort of gave me a lift because I could see it was not only me.
Without dialysis his condition can only get worse.
There are other forms of dialysis, see http://www.kidneypatientguide.org.uk/contents.php
If you can get him to read the other topics, perhaps it may help to change his outlook.
Come back if you think we can be of help.
Best wishes to you both.

Please get him to speak to a professional and find out the end result of no dialysis and hopefully that will make a big difference in his decision.
It's so true that dialysis makes you feel so much better. He can start to get his life back to a new normal and enjoy the things he liked before he was ill.
All the best.
