I need some advice about my current kidney problems

Post by Magicmanjoejoe »

Hello everyone! Last week I had severe diarrhea due to over taking of laxatives that caused me dehydration. I eventually went to the hospital and doctors treated the dehydration. I took blood test and while I didn't pay attention to it at the time, I had a 1.05 creatinine level and 6 BUN. I don't believe I ate much that day.

Flash forward a couple of days. I started having severe left kidney pains that eventually stopped hurting but still some small pains. That night I was trying to go to sleep and felt pains all through my body to the point it would hit me and wake me up. I would describe these pains as sharp, pins and needle type of pains. I went to the ER yesterday and long story short, I did blood work and had a 1.14 creatinine level and 13 bun, which is still normal but I noticed the increase. I had a urinalysis that came back negative for everything. They did CT scans and a ultrasound and found nothing wrong with my kidneys. The day before I went to my primary doctor and had the same test taken without eating or drinking. Those test results don't come to next week. I'm also seeing a neurologist tommorow morning to see if I can take an official GfR test. Has anyone experienced this before they were diagnosed? Are these symptoms possible without an advanced form of Kidney failure? I am a bit nervous about potential kidney failure.

My left side kidney pain has subsided but I have itching and sharp tingling/pins and needles pain all over my body, both of which are signs of kidney failure

Seen my neurologist today. He he gave me a tests for my nerves and order a creatinine clearance test and gfr. He said the symptoms of end state are usually seen on a ultra sound and cat scan or more obvious that my symptoms. Interesting...

I think all you can do is wait for the results of the on-going tests, rather than trying to second guess your consultant.

Arriving at a diagnosis, is always difficult, and test results will trigger off further tests.

Best wishes.

Thank you. Are these symptoms only found in end stage or close to end stage?

The short answer is, 'no'.

Your symptoms could be related to many different problems, your doctors will/should be going step by step eliminating possible causes one at a time. They will eventually end up with a diagnosis.

But it will take time.

Best wishes.

Thank you. I such pains and itching last night. I'm doing the 24 hour urine test today. Will get my results on the 17th. It's gonna be a long 2 weeks or so. My symptoms are all leaning towards kidney failure so it scares me that I may have end stage.

Look at it this way, 'end stage' is not, 'the end', it is just the start of a new chapter.

Your right. I'm 25 with anxiety and relationship issues so this is a bit stressful and last thing I need is a life altering disease but if it is there's nothing I can do but find a way to change my diet and health for the better. Thank you though. I hope if it is something it's stage 3 though they say symptoms don't come at that stage.

A simple blood test that looks for kidney function is more than enough.

If you look into any symptom enough you can get what you want to read into and diagnose yourself.
Now 35 with Alports and I had my first kidney-versary 18th feb 2013....I hope to have many more.

My living donor and his family are doing all well.

My blood serum and bun were high but normal last time. I'm getting more blood work tommorow. My egfr is >60. It's always said that symptoms don't occur until end stage so that's why I'm a bit scared.
