APD Abdominal Pain

Post by Birdman »

Hello Again,

I transferred from CAPD to APD a couple of days ago. It is working well, with few alarms, and good clearance. But I feel like my abdomen has been strained. Like a muscular ache. My nurse says it is my system getting used to a pump removing the fluid instead of gravity, and I need to allow 2 weeks to get used to APD. I am sure she is absolutely right, but I just wondered if others have experienced the same and did it improve quite quickly.

I went straight to APD so had to deal with drain pain a week after having the catheter fitted, the agony masked any other feeling I may have had!!!!

Have you discussed things such as dwell and drain times? Tidal settings to not fully remove all fluid on drains? Not sure if this would help but it can't help to ask can it. The number of cycles being increased and the volume of fill reduced may be something that can help?
Now 35 with Alports and I had my first kidney-versary 18th feb 2013....I hope to have many more.

My living donor and his family are doing all well.
