Share your story to help an NHSBT organ donation campaign

Post by KrystynaMcGrath »

Hi all,

I'm working with NHS Blood and Transplant on an organ donation PR campaign and am posting on here in the hope that some of you may be to able to help by sharing your story.

The campaign aims to raise awareness that Black and Asian people are three times more likely to need an organ transplant, but only 2% are on the NHS Organ Donation Register. As there is a shortage of suitable organs, patients from the South Asian and Black communities can wait twice as long for a kidney transplant.

We are looking for case studies of people from Asian and Black origin who are either
- waiting for an organ transplant
- have received an organ transplant
- or a family member has had their organs donated.

Your story would be used to support the BME Organ Donation Campaign and shared with the media, along side campaign press materials (such as the NHSBT website).

We would also like you to be involved in media interviews, if you were comfortable with this option. We would speak with you and ask a few questions about your experience and following that, write up a one-page summary for you to approve or amend as needed. We will never pass on your contact details to the media without your consent.

If you would like to share your story or if you have any questions please email me at [email protected].

Thanks very much,

Krystyna
