Getting a second opinion

Post by haych »

Hi everyone

I've posted a few times so you'll see my history and ups n' downs with MCD.

About 2 months ago I started to leak protein again and it looked quite likely that i was having another relapse. My consultant immediately wanted to start me on high dose steroids and arrange for another kidney biopsy. After having Cyclophosphamide treatment the thought of more medication wasn't appealing.

My GP recommended we sought out the territary specialist for renal disease in our area and get a 2nd opinion. To cut a long story short, after 2 months of protein leaking i've no swelling and no immediate sign of nephrotic syndrome. The specialist has suggested not to take any medication for another month so we can see what's going on.

I have had an ANA test and this shows a low positive result which i believe provides more information of Autoimmune diseases - Has anyone got any info on this test?

We have discussed we may try to reduce the protein loss with ACE Inhibitors instead of aggressive steroid & others treatment. Can anyone give advice ?

Whilst i'm not out of the woods just yet and the disease could aggressively relapse at anytime, i'm really pleased that for the first time in a couple of years I'll have a medication free xmas and new year :) Well worth seeking a second opinion.

Merry xmas to all and have a happy & healthy new year.

Hx
