i want to go to chile next summer for a couple of weeks and have found out i will need typhoid immunisation, buts its a live vaccine. i had a k tx 4 yrs ago, am i allowed to do this?

Hi, You will need to confirm this with your doctor just to make sure. My understaning is that if you are on immunosuppressant therapy then you shouldn't have a live vaccine. However, if you aren't then it should be ok as long as your immune system is not compromised in some other way. I asked this question recently when I had to have the measles vaccine for my US green card application. Had I been immuno-suppressed then I wouldn't have been able to have it, but my nephrologist felt that it was a good idea as I wasn't and have never had measles. I had the injection and suffered no ill effects. Amanda
