Keith - I don't know whether to be purely horrified or also secretly a little amused - having spent a fair bit of time in hospital and witnessed many people being both unpleasant and unreasonable, I was amazed at the patience and kindness of the staff I observed in very trying circumstances. I certainly would not have been able to be as courteous and patient as they were, and I would not have blamed them for a more robust attitude. That being said, it does sound as if the instances you saw went beyond reasonable exasperation ....
