Question for our Canadian friends - or whoever might know

My kids have a couple of friends who are in medical school here in the U.S.. They recently visited and they both made the comment they were taught the reason the U.S.'s kidney dialysis mortality rate looks so much worse than Canada's is because Canada doesn't accept patients over 60. I seem to recall reading something like this may have been true in the bad old days when dialysis machines were in short supply, but I believe that hasn't true for years now - I can't remember where I read it.

Anyway, I was wondering if anybody could verify this one way or the other? I would be quite surprised to find out what these students are being taught is true - it would seem pretty vicious, but then again I've seen our northern neighbors' hockey games (kidding!).
