HELP/ ADVICE NEEDED

Hi,
Nearly three weeks ago my wife was diagnosed with cancer and given a month to live. This was a real kicker as she's battled MS for
over 40 years and also suffers from severe depression. The cancer is impinging on her kidneys and it is this which will kill her.
Medical opinion was that the cancer is inoperable and that death from loss of kidney function is much kinder. Dialysis was not mentioned
and when I asked about it I was told it was too tough for her to handle. As usual she has surprised the doctors who are surprised how
well she is doing. I know dialysis wont cure cancer but it might extend her life. She is not ready to die but doesn't want to live although
deciding she isn't ready to die might point at her actually wanting to be alive. My questions are How bad is dialysis? Have you ever
thought you'd rather be dead than undergo dialysis? Do you know of anyone who has chosen death over dialysis?

Thank you for your time and any help you may give.

Ted

Hello Ted,

I am very sorry to read your post, your question about dialysis for your wife is a very difficult one.

My first thought is, do you understand what is involved in dialysis?

Has your wife been referred to a nephrologist, and if so, is it the nephrologist who is saying it is not appropriate?

Has or can your wife get permission to go to a dialysis unit to see what it is about, and talk to some patients?

The first few weeks on dialysis can be difficult until the body gets used to the changes in blood chemistry at each session.

One other thought, dialysis removes most of the waste products that the kidneys would have done but it also removes some medication that is circulating in the blood stream, this may be a problem.

One last thought, if dialysis could make a difference of months then I would pursue it for me but if it is days or a week then no.

My best wishes to you both.

I see there is some rubbish on the site about natural cures - ignore it.

Many thanks for your reply, unfortunately we will not be able to find out if dialysis was suitable
