You may start with the following link; it might not feed you with what *exactly* you are interested in. This is a past course at Brown university in Biotechnology, in particular the current held research in Bioartificial Kidney.

http://biomed.brown.edu/Courses/BI108/B ... fault.html

Please go and navigate throgh the course website. Each article or link in the left-navigation provides further references, some are available on the Net.
(Don't forget to read about the Bioartificial Kidney.)

Hope this helps you out

nutrient data

The website shown below will give you the nutrient content (including protein, sodium, potassium, phosphorous, etc) of any number of foods, both fresh and packaged. I printed out the whole thing and used it a great deal during the time I was on a special renal diet, pre-transplant.

If your aunt does get in to see a nephrologist, she should be able to get guidelines for recommended daily allowances for each of her "restricted" categories (such as 2.5 mg/day of this one, or 5 mg/day of that one...) She may also ask to be referred to a renal dietician to help her prepare a balanced meal plan.

For me, the easiest thing was to check my printed list and decide what I could have that would keep me below my restricted amounts - having it all together on one list really made things much easier for me.

Hope this helps!

all the best,
Cheryl

Hi Cris

My husband and I have a renal dietician, who has been a great help to us.

As you said everyone is very different as to whta they can and cant eat.

I know its a pain, but my advice to you would be contact your neph again and find out if you have a renal dietician that could help you.

Thanks

Kelly

thank you all for your replies, and all the sites to start researching, i dont know why she hasnt seen a nutritionist by now shes been seeing a nemphrologist for years, i seen a nutritionist 16 yrs ago when it was discovered i had pkd i just have to watch protien (40 mg a day) and salt so my diet is fairly easy, but added to that posphous and potassium wow and shes lost weight that she needs to gain back, seems impossible on a full renal diet seems like she will loose even more. thank you
