Re: Blood pressure

That is unfortunate, as Losartan also has some other benefits for protecting the kidneys as I understood it from my nephrologist (other than just lowering blood pressure). And also low risks of side effects.

Luckily I'm doing fine with just 2x 12.5mg Losartan daily. BP around 120-130 over 60-70. Doesn't seem to increase as kidney function declines, so I guess the "BP regulation part" of the kidney is still working for me.

However I had a few rounds of prednisone treatments for my ulcerative colitis which raises blood pressure temporary, up to about 145 systolic. It steadily drops with every week of tapering. Not worried about though - actually my creatinine values have consistently gone down and I've gained back 1-2% eGFR every time I've started a prednisone treatment. :D

Re: Blood pressure + Vitamin K2

Post by freddyy »

Wow, hadn't even considered the possibility that just having an AV fistula could be of benefit (before using it). I was offered many times now by my nurse to have the surgery done, but so far I've managed to postpone it. My goal is to tough it out until my planned transplant on October 12th. And contrary to what both my nephrologists as well as my nurses guessed, I've held on from around 8% eGFR for almost a year now. Even up to 10% by now.
(I will still get a catheter shoved into my heart week before op for pre-transplant dialysis and filtering of ABO antibodies though...)

I had totally missed that scripture "Nefromedia". It has some very interesting articles, thanks for the tip!

Also you had some interesting facts about vitamin K2 in another thread. Seems like something that would be very sensible to add to my diet (especially since I take quite a lot of D3). I'm thinking with my CKD as well as colitis there is a slim chance my body converts enough K1 to K2. And it sure would be nice to reduce risk of cardiovascular events since that is our main cause of mortality.

Do you have any specific tips for brands or shops where you purchase K2? (If you do take it yourself?) Seems expensive in Sweden, but very cheap in UK through Amazon. Question is if those brands are trustworthy or not.

Maybe we have UK residents here who have any experience or tips regarding purchases of supplements through amazon? Can we trust the quality, are some brands better, are there some to avoid?
