Bladder not emptying after tx

My husband has been told that his bladder isn't emptying properly after his transplant and he will have to use a catheter. They haven't said how long this is likely to go on or whether it's permanent. They've told him that he needs to get it checked once a week at his local surgery. I'm really quite worried. I'm just wondering whether anyone else has had this problem and whether it's fixable or a permanent disability. He had the transplant last November.

Do you know there are nurses trained in bladder control?

Many patients are taught or should I say retaught, bladder control, this looks like just such a case.

I would get him to go and see his GP to ask if he can be referred. Whilst the catheter is an effective short term solution, it does not help to cure the underlying problem.

Good Luck.

He's already seeing his transplant team twice a week and he's been in hospital this week. I'll get him to ask them about bladder control.

His GP may be more sympathetic, that is what I was thinking anyway.

The transplant team tend to be more focused on the transplant survival.

It may be due to prostate problems. He's going into hospital tomorrow where they'll fit a longer term catheter. He may also have a biopsy as Gfr is down.
