eGFR dropping off cliff

Dear All

Sorry to bother -- but I am seeking some explanations/suggestions/reassurance/whatever.

I am a 53 year old male, abut 6 foot tall, 71 kg and otherwise fit and healthy. I cycle, sail and dive and feel fine in myself.

Went to the GP recently complaining of tiredness and he checked various bloods etc. All was fine, except my eGFR score. Nine months ago it was 72, three weeks ago it was 55, now its 41.
The GP is confused -- he claims that normally there would be other symptoms to indicate I was unwell. He has referred me on for further advice.

Cant think of anything that has changed too much recently, with one exception. For years I have been taken Nexium for acid reflux but only took it very occasionally when symptoms were playing up.
But my wife insisted I take it daily as I was developing an annoying cough that the Nexium seemed to help.

Could that be a possible cause?

Anyone who can help me understand why a level falls that quickly?

Thanks in advance

Andrew

I hate jumping in on your post. I'm new here and my husband has CKD and I want to post my question, but can't seem to figure out how to do so. Hopefully, you can help me in that particular area. Thank you.

The GP is correct, in that the average person does not usually suffer symptoms, as you describe them, until their eGFR is much lower.

You could be the exception to the rule, did your bloods include Haemoglobin (red cell count), anaemia will make you feel tired, and if you have kidney problems you are likely to be anaemic.

Re acid reflux - this is a list of Nexium side effects, these look relevant to me http://dbmedicinenow.info/nexium-esomep ... id-more/2/

Best wishes.

Hello,
You have learned how to post OK, looks as though your problem is starting a new topic or thread.

Look up near the top of the forum index page, (where all the topics are listed **) up near the top on the right is a red box marked new topic, click that and away you go. It helps everyone of the topic name describes the contents.

If this doe's not solve your problem, ask for more help, someone will oblige.

** You could click 'Go' next to the box labelled, "The KPG forum" in on the bottom left of this page to get back to the index.
