Ibaprofen !!!!! Disaster

Post by Dylanmace »

Hi everyone I was getting headaches quite often up till two weeks ago , so I was just pulling in at garage taking the above tablets say 3 times a week,
Then one evening I've literally collapsed at home , into hospital next thing you no I'm being told buy the firing squad it isn't looking good!!! I've never panicked so much in my life I had 4% use left , some 10 days later I'm home resting with 26%
Thankgod my body responded , I was a little shocked to find out unlike the liver the kidneys can't repair themself's as such
My friend bought me this great news .
I'm on a few tablets I've changed my diet some what I wanted to anyway
I'm type 2 diabetic and not truly respecting that ,having lost my fiancée last year my mum and gran this year
I was in hospital thinking what did I ever do wrong
So this is all new to me straight to damage level 3 , I'd much rather be hear than start googling stuff
I'm retry fatigued at the mo , slightly confused but I'm still hear

It's shame I live miles from anywhere as I don't want to try walking to far
I also like to lay golf will this be a possibility for me in the future ??

Thankyou

Sorry to read of your concerns, however, worrying never solves any problems. Life frequently deals a bum hand but all we can do is try to adapt to make the best of it.

All of these questions are best directed at your doctor, without a lot of very detailed background information, and the medical knowledge to interpret it, others cannot help you.

Some people are able to work even when on dialysis, others cannot, each patient is an individual.

Best wishes.

Hi Dylanmace

Sorry to hear about your problems. Not surprisingly, you have a lot of questions, I'm sure. Some others will be able to answer here, so ask away, some you will need to direct to your doctor. With regard to your question 'what does your future hold', I don't think anyone here can say for sure, because it depends on so many things and everyone is unique. I would have thought the first question for your doctor is whether your kidney issues are acute (due to the pills you took) but will now probably stay at the same level of function OR whether the issues are chronic and your kidneys are likely to deteriorate further.

With regard to your question about activity - I feel sure that you will still be able to play golf. Maybe not immediately, as your body has been through a lot, but eventually I would have thought your strength will return. I have around 10/11% function (not on dialysis yet) and I still work, walk my dogs and even plan to go skiing in around a month. Yes, I do get tired and have to rest up a bit on some days, and no I couldn't ski all day like I once could, but I am still active. That said, it is probably easier for me because the type of kidney disease that I have has meant a slow deterioration, giving my body time to adjust. Yours has been thrown into shock, so take your time but I am sure you will get there.

Good luck!
