Just had a tx and now a fracture

My husband had a successful transplant 18 days ago. He was discharged from hospital after 7 days but he's not steady on his feet. Unfortunately he fell and broke his shoulder a few days ago and he's in a lot of pain. One of my worries is that he's taking steroids and I'm wondering if these will inhibit the healing process. He's going to his transplant clinic today and fracture clinic tomorrow and hopefully they'll be able to help but in the meantime has anyone else had any experience of this? If you had a fracture did it take longer to heal on the sort of drugs they give you after a tx?

Length of time to heal a fracture is probably more linked to age, and general health, the new kidney should be helping by keeping Phosphates under control.

I should have said in my other post, if he is dehydrated he will tend to have balance problems.
With his new kidney he will be shifting more water, the transplant support team will have given guidance on how much to drink.

By a strange coincidence the consultant at the fracture clinic seemed to be very knowledgable about kidney transplants and the drugs used etc. Then he told us he had also had a transplant so he knew all about the problems. Like my husband he found it difficult to drink enough. I keep trying to encourage him to drink more. The fracture is healing very well and it should continue to heal over the next few weeks so that's good news.
