Sudden drop in egfr

Post by sylivaal »

Hi everyone

I am hoping someone may be able to help me. I have been having a few problems - blood and protein in urine, getting up lots at night to wee etc, have now discovered my egfr has dropped from 72 to 52 in 1 month! Has anyone any idea why this would happen? I am currently waiting to see the kidney specialist but am worried why it would drop so quickly. I don't have any other health problems and bp is fine. I have already had ultrasound and xray which didn't show up anything abnormal.

Hi sylivaal,

First, try not to worry - worry does not solve anything.

your eGFR drop could be many things, you may have been dehydrated on the day of your sampling.

An eGFR of 52 is an adequate function, and should not affect you.

All you can do is wait for the visit to your consultant, bear in mind eGFR is notorious for being inaccurate, nephrologists usually look for trends rather than absolute values. Your consultant will have all your health records available, and will use these, plus tests, to form a picture of what may be wrong.

Best wishes.
