Chicken Pox Query and Hello from New Member!

Post by wolvesphil »

Hi,
I am new here, I had a transplant in 2009 after finding out I have iga in early 2008.

My niece and nephew have recently had chicken pox, they have both come out in spots and are now scabbing over so should be past the contagious stage?

I also had chicken pox as a child but have read that the immunosupression may reduce the level of antibodies built up back then. I am taking prednisolone 5mg / mmf 500 bd and tacrolimus 2 am / 1 pm.

Should I be safe to see them this coming weekend?

Hi wolvesphil,

I would think a phone call to your consultant or GP will get you a safe answer.

It would be interesting to others, if you could post the answer.

Best wishes.

I just spoke to one of the renal nurses and they advised against seeing them. Even though they have all scabbed over now they said it's still too risky for me due to immunosuppresion. It's a shame as this would have been a family gathering for Father's Day but best to be on the safe side.

Yea, i've only just seen this and it doesn't surprise me.

I had chicken pox as a child, then a few years, 3? 4?, post tx got shingles, the grown up's version. It hurt.

Also probs best to stay away from unvaccinated kids in case of measles etc.

Hopefully there will be plenty more opportunities to see your niece and nephew.
