Mild sweat due to needle phobia, but nothing serious.

It's not live so should be no risk, however every vaccine has potential side effects, but they must be less than the risks associated with flu or my TX team would advise against it. Are you having a reaction or worried about having it?
Now 35 with Alports and I had my first kidney-versary 18th feb 2013....I hope to have many more.

My living donor and his family are doing all well.

No problem.
Not even a sore arm this year.
(Although after my last posts to you on the subject of PD tube removal, if I were you I wouldn't listen to me!!).

I did a ...bucket of flu jabs so far, no issues, but i always keep a record of the Lot number of the jab  (there is a small paper with stickers with Lot number and other info into the box with the jabs, the nurse can find it)

Hi Grey,

Yes, the Royal London transplant team recommend you have the flu jab.

Had mine in September... no problem with it.

I've had flu jabs for ages, both pre and post transplant. Sometimes I get a sniffle afterwards, but this year everything was fine. Injection point was sore for a day or so.

On a similar query. My son (2 years old) is getting the live nasal vaccine. Any one had any issues or been advised that a close relative shouldn't get the nasal version when someone in the family is immunosuppressed?

My GP advised that my daughter had the injection and not the nasal spray. She is 14 months so the age difference could be the factor?

This page summarises: http://www.nhs.uk/conditions/vaccinatio ... ccine.aspx

Children under 2 who need protection for whatever reason get the jab. Two, three and four year olds get the nasal spray. So do Y1 and Y2 schoolchildren

It says kids who are immunosuppressed should have the jab rather than the spray, but doesn't say anything about immunosuppressed relatives. I'm not sure why it might be a problem?

I was wondering why my son hadn't had the spray this year. Seems that as a reception child he's in between the two eligible groups. I would like him to have it - he was prem and we still use salbutamol occasionally when he gets a cold. Off to research whether you can buy it.

Grey,

Back in the 80's flu jabs weren't as common as now.

I got a severe dose of flu in 1989. I have rarely felt so ill. Sweating, shaking, fever. My bed sheets had to be changed every few hours because they were soaking from the sweat. I thought i might die and desperately wanted to be admitted to hospital.

Since then i have ALWAYS had the jab.

No side effects and have never been through that experience again, thank god.

Please, have it.

Remember, flu kills thousands of people per annum and transplant patients, being immunosuppressed, are very vulnerable.
