PATIENT VIEW RESULTS

Post by Birdman »

Hello Again,

I am sure this topic has been raised before, and I know I have mentioned it in the past, but I can't find it.

Now I am on dialysis, my test results are very important to me. I am becoming more and more frustrated by the inconsistencies in the results shown on Patient View. Some results do not show at all, and some show spasmodically.

For instance, my cholesterol reading is sometimes not shown, and the same goes for PTH, even though I know they are tested every blood test and show on the hospital system.

Other important results such as iron and ferritin never show on Patient View. I am also disappointed that now I am having adequacy tests, neither URR or KT/V are showing either.

So my questions are please:-

What results do other FM's see on their Patient View results?

Who is responsible for the results going on to Patient View?

What can I do to have more of my results recorded on Patient View?

Thanks everyone.

I see my potassium, phosphorus and Hb levels mainly - I've put them into the table view for easy access. I also see urea, creatinine, eGFR, and a variety of others.

The main result I'm interested in which isn't shown is HCT, which I need to put into my HD machine. I have to call the clinic each time to find out the result. They don't know why I can't see the result on patient view.

I don't have cholesterol tested much, and only iron has become important recently, and that shows when tested. URR and KT/V haven't been updated since 2012. I do see PTH (buried in page 2).
Who is responsible for the results going on to Patient View?
How to get this fixed, I don't know. I would imagine it's something the hospital needs to set so the results are exported for display.

Hi Birdman,

Re - missing information. Looking at the way the system works, I would think your first port of call should be your hospital unit. If they are not sending the data it cannot be displayed. I don't think Cholesterol is checked every month, certainly the unit I attend do cholesterol every three months.

Hope that helps.

You can adjust PV results if they are on the system

Click on Table View then 'Add results' from the dropdown menu.

At the moment i've got Urea Creatinine Potassium Cholest Phos Ca Hb CRP Plats WBC eGFR Ferr Urate AlkP PTH Sodium GGT Gluc all visible but can remove if I only want to do certain results.
Your unit should be able to add the results you need.

Hope this helps.

Hi,

If you'd like to e-mail your details to [email protected] we'll have a look.

One possible reason for the random results would be if your results were processed at a different laboratory to normal. PV gets data from the specialist renal system at your unit and it's common for not all results to get sent electronically to these, particularly if you dialyse at a satellite unit. When they say they show on the hospital system you need to check they mean the renal one and not a generic hospital wide system.

Another reason can be if some of your tests are being done using a different method - for example there are two ways to measure creatinine. Within the renal system there is a mapping from the laboratory test codes to PV's simpler set. Sometimes when a unit starts using a new method they forget to set-up the mapping for the new laboratory code. This is also what they need to do to get new types of tests to be sent. Depending on the system (and their local IT support) they may need their supplier to do this.

chessnut: If you would also like to e-mail I'll see if we can get hct set-up for you.

After a rather large delay we're soon to be publishing an expanded set of test codes for suppliers/units to set-up. If there are any you would like which aren't listed at http://renalpatientview.blogspot.co.uk/ ... r-rpv.html could you let us know please.

Thanks JMan. That helps a lot. I knew about the dropdown menu. But it only shows the results that are loaded onto the system from my blood tests. It doesn't show quite a few that I would like to know, which show as "not available" in the relevant boxes on the main results screen.

How you have helped me immensely is to say you have Sodium, Ferr and Urate. Those are all showing as "not available" on my results, even though I know they have been included in blood tests. So it is becoming obvious that different hospitals export different results. I wonder why? It is rather confusing, and I would have thought some sort of consistency across the board would have been preferable.

Thanks again JMan!

Thankyou George. I will email later today. I have waited a couple of days in case any further results are posted. But they haven't been.

However, you say about where I dialyse. I actually am on PD, so dialyse at home. All my blood tests and my recent first PET test are carried out at the hospital, so I can't imaging it is to do with different labs, but then - what do I know?

Thanks for your help
