So my creatinine levels are now at 1.6 steadily increased for the past 2 years. Right now I am experiencing fatigue and a skin rash that has been with me now for over 2 weeks. It started out as an allergic reaction then migrated to the legs, thighs and breasts where it's just staying and making life very tiresome.
Questions, what has your experience been with itchy skin rashes? I've tried pretty much everything to alleviate the itching but so far nothing. Getting kind of hope less.
Thanks

Re: Struggling With Rashes - Creatinine Levels
Hi Sorry for the trouble you are experiencing. Yes bad kidney function does cause all kinds of skin problems as well as other complications even when on dialysis, well that's my experience. I suffered with all manor of rashes and bumps etc. until I had my recent transfer and within 10 days of a good working new kidney they all disappeared. next time you see the kidney specialist ask for a chat with the dietician and see if there are any diet changes that may help reduce the effects. Chin up dear, unfortunately it goes with the territory.
After a long time of waiting an anonymous donor has arrived in my life.
Words cannot express my gratitude to this lady and my paired exchange wife donor making it all possible

Re: Struggling With Rashes - Creatinine Levels
Hi, am working with a natropath now - cut out virtually everything except a few items - question - does the rash ever go away? and 2 what about fatigue - does that linger as well? or do i have to resign myself to wallowing in a recliner for the rest of my life? these things change from day to day - today i am completely off my energy and i can't think of anything i can take that will help. please respond if you have some idea what works. thank you.

Hi missbliss,
Why a Naturopath, I would have thought your nephrologist or even your GP would be first choice.
The most common rash, caused by kidney failure, is thought to be caused by high levels of phosphates.
The level of phosphates that triggers rashes varies from person to person.
A 'normal' healthy diet contains an excess of phosphate, healthy kidneys maintain the correct level.
Most patients, on dialysis are assigned a dietician, who shows them how to reduce their phosphate intake to compensate for the lack of kidney function.
However, phosphate is vital to life (at the correct level), therefore, it is best to seek guidance from a dietician trained in the problems of kidney failure. Your phosphate and potassium (again vital for life) levels should showup on your blood results.
I get relief from my rash by using an ointment, prescribed my GP, called, Hydromol, several other patients, at dialysis, have also found it works for them.
Best wishes.

Re: Struggling With Rashes - Creatinine Levels
Blood tests reveal high creatinine but normal phosphorous. I have not been yet to a nephrologist because of many reasons, mostly due to red tape hassles and bad doctors coupled with inconsistencies in my health care. So, the itch -
It appeared when I was exposed to too many chemicals - it started from the skull to the toes in a hive like way - eyes were shut, welts, lymph nodes - went to ER and it's now been 3 weeks and counting and still is ongoing in spite of what I've been doing - diet-wise and topically.
Because of fatigue have not been able to get around and get things done with my health as well as what I wrote above. Whatever is causing the high creatinine - is effecting my muscles and there is also anemia that causes the breathlessness.
Waiting now to see a nephrologist to determine what is going on with this. The creatinine has been high for over 2 years and just keeps getting higher.

Hi
Good idea to see a nephrologist. 1.6 isn't really that high when you consider normal is up to 1.3. I really would be surprised if your symptoms of tiredness were coming from this 1.6. For instance I didn't really start to get symptoms till I was 14% which is around 4.5. Definitely see a nephrologist but I doubt your itching is coming from kidney disease at this stage. What are your iron levels? I started to become anaemic at 4.5 but everyone is different I suppose. Good luck

Re: Struggling With Rashes - Creatinine Levels
I am at 1.6 and I get terrible itches around my ankles, but have done so for years.
No rashes though.
1.6 in itself is fairly early stage (I have iGAN) so the itch might be an allergy or something.
The only symptom I get nowadays is fatigue but I do work 50 hours a week so may not even be that.
I get foamy urine, occasional flank pain and I have had four episodes of frank hematuria in my life.
Good luck.

I agree. I also wonder why kidney problem will eventually leads to skin problems. Your are not alone with this struggles. I also have had one. But I find time to research other alternative. I drink medicine for it but at the same time, I also eat right and drink right like fruits that keeps your body and skin healthy and boost your immune system to keep you healthy despite of having problem with our kidney. One of acai berry benefits is to have a natural anti-oxidant -- this also helps me with my health issues somehow. In addition, I visit my doctor twice a month for my check up.
