The tradition Continues

We seem to be having a rash of bad news lately, I hope this changes that. As my self proclaimed tradition dictates, today I'm celebration 39 years with the same transplant. Though I've lost some function over the years (my kidney is 83 years old) I'm still doing well and am very stable. I have no il...

Re: Pam...

So sorry to hear that. Pam and I had very similar backgrounds. We were about the same age and had our transplants about the same time. Was very sorry to hear she lost hers. She seemd to be doing well afterward though. Thank God I'm still very fortunate. Will be celebrating 39 years this Thursday. Bill

Re: hip joint pain cause?

I too have bursitis in my right hip. If it turn out that is what you have, I found what helps (helps not eliminates) is not to sleep on that side. The pressure while sleeping just makes it worse.

Re: 24 year transplants

Congratulations on 24 years. Next year goggle "Quarter Century Club." Its an on-line club of people who've had transplants over 25 years. There are people from around the world with all sorts of organs transplanted. Mine, as Thumps said, will be 39 years in April but it was from a live don...

Re: time until able to drive post transplant

I had to wait 4 years before I could drive after my transplant! ......But then again I was only 13 years old when I was transplanted.

Re: Allopurinol

Post transplant for a long time. All the gout medication I've tried all made me anemic. I too have bursitis in the right hip. Would love to know how to get rid of that. For gout I've given up red meat altogether and if I fell an attack coming on I just up my prednisone from 5 mg to 20. Take 20 for t...

Re: ID medical tags

I have MedicAlert. I think anyone with a chronic disease should have a databased medical alert identification. Since they are computer data based driven you can always up date your information like prescription or doctor changes. Mine has more detail information than I'm sure anyone in my family cou...

Re: Wanted - a moisturiser that works

Aileen;

Being one who has been immune suppressed pretty much all my life, dry skin is common. I've seen a number of dermatologists over the years. The link below I think is a good summary of what to do.

Re: Keeping with tradition

@ Rik - I can't believe that I've been on this board for 8 years reading you posts which usually results in rolling my eyes while thinking "I can't believe he wrote that!" @ Amanda - no, I know a number of people who have had transplants longer than I. The longest one I've personally met w...

Re: 23 year anniversary

20+ years is a very good sign for a long term keeper. Congratulations. I'm not sure if I have the record here but I'll be 38 years next month. BTW I know a number of people who have had transplants longer than I.

I've had my transplant for almost 40 years and still take prednisone (5 mg/day). I drink a lot of milk, always have love the stuff and take 1,000 IU of D a day. My vitamin D levels remain normal.
