UTI's
Hello Jen, Andy, Rachel, Amanda, JMan, Elaine and Lorna It's been a long time... Hope you all are well.... I have not had any UTI's since before transplant (2002). Although my 23yr old daughter keeps antibiotics an hand to take at the first sign of a UTI .. She had both ureters re-implanted at age 6.

alishe: I received a cadaveric kidney transplant after 2 cancers. It was 13yrs after bladder cancer and 4-1/2yrs after a sarcoma. The transplant nephrologist conferred with the oncologist before I was on the "list". That was at the point when I was 3-1/2 yrs post sarcoma surgery. but still...

Pred. reduction
cheryl is right on..on all points ..I was on pred as part of the anti-rejection protocol for 3 years 2 of which were at 5mg per day I took 6 months to reduce from 5 mg/day to zero at 1/2 mg per month reduction I had no withdrawl symptoms and my renal bloodwork got 5% BETTER this reduction seems too ...

the likely hood of a donor having renal problems, increases
from the general population of 3/1000 th of 1% to 4/1000 of 1 %.

your donor should be reminded that statistically he is no more lieky to have renal failure in his lieftime than the general population. His only sacrifice was the pain & time of surgery & recovery. Knowing this, the next time he/she brings up the subject ...ask if he is still in pain from th...
