Re: Living or existing with Kidney Failure
I so empathise with what you are saying, Grey. MandyV, I think that you have a great attitude, and ?I believe that I used to have, but since my transplant failed, I have been on dialysis for eleven years since then. Your post seer s to imply that it is a choice how you live your life. Well, to some ...

Re: waste bag leak
As I have already said, if infection was a risk from the end of a drain line, it would be necessary for everyone doing APD to drain into a sterile drain bag; that is simply not the case. Many people drain into the toilet, a bath tub, a bucket. That is essentially no difference than get a leak in a d...

Re: waste bag leak
I did APD for eight years and HHD only time I ever used the drain bag was when I had to do my monthly adequacy test.

Re: waste bag leak
To be honest, I would not worry. It is not necessary to drain into a drain bag (I used yo drain into toilet). The drain line is not considered sterile and infection would have to track all the way up the waste line before you got an infection; this simply will not happen otherwise it would be standa...

Lizbee, while you still pee, you have residual renal function. If you have an appreciable urine output, that should be factored into adequacy tests. Doing a drop here and there really doesn't constitute residual renal function; that is where I am. I go a little drop every few days.

Re: Night time weeing!
Not sure that there is anything you can do. Do not hold back on drinking fluid or that will hasten the deterioration of your kidneys ( by the way, thirst is a poor indicator of thirst. Once you feel thirsty, you are already dehydrated). Unfortunately, damaged kidneys lose diurnal rhythm and the abil...

Re: PD supplies
No problems as far as I am aware from keeping PD fluid in the garage. I used to keep mine at one time in an outdoor shed.

Re: Newly Diagnosed and a little scared
Understandable you are worried. Your doc. Needs to monitor you so as to find out if your kidney function is stable or if there is a downward trend over time. He also should be determining if this is age-related although you sound too young for this to be a conflicting issue. He should also be referr...

Re: Hi Update from jbell
Lizbee, if your kidney function is so dire, why are they not dialyzing you through a catheter if your fistula is not ready? How do they know that it will be mature in three months, which is a moot point as it sounds as if you need dialysis now. How are your other labs, particularly potassium?

Good luck to you and Lizbee. Writing your questions down is a great idea. I often do it.

There is also the iPad air which is the new lighter version of the full-size iPad. I have had an iPad from the time that they first come out. I love my iPad, rarely use my lap top. If you want more sound, you can get blue-tooth speakers, particularly useful when you want to watch a movie. I do almos...

Re: What I miss most about Pre-Diaylsis / TX Life
Not having my PD catheter come apart at the connector, and 'pissing' down my clothes in Macadonalds. Not having 'CSI crime scenes' in my dialysis room, with blood running down the window, out the window frame and down the outside of my house. Fortunately it rained heavily the other day, so O think t...

Council tax reductions for dialysis room
Years ago when I dialyzed in UK I used to get a council tax reduction for using a room of my home for dialysis. does that still apply and how does bedroom tax affect those using a room for dialysis? I am just curious as I was having a discussion with my in-laws about this the other day.

Re: My MUM talking about stopping dialysis
Another point. You need both iron and Epo to make red blood cells. With a count this low, epo injections will result in more blood cells to be produced but this process will quickly consume iron stores and then the process will come to a grinding halt and the anemia will remain. You need to demand a...
