Re: Coping with not having children

Hi I was in the same position as you 12 years ago. I really wanted children and always assumed I would have them. I knew I had kidney failure from the age of 22 but at that point I had around 45% function. However by the time I explored having children, my function had dropped. I had an added compli...

Re: Exit site granulation

Hi. I haven't been on the board for a while but I just happened to see your message. When I was on dialysis I had terrible problems with overgranulation. It was painful and bled every day. I tried the silver nitrate but it always came back. I tried the steroid tape (the one I used was called Haelen ...

Re: Few questions if anyone has answers please.

I used 2 gauze swabs over the exit site and then had the Tegaderm with the hole in the middle stuck on top of them. So the exit site was not open to the air and there was a very limited risk of infection. I never had an exit site infection in the 3 years I was on PD! I believe the thinking from my h...

Re: Few questions if anyone has answers please.

Hi I had overgranulation around my exit site whilst on CAPD. I had trouble for a long time and ended up having to change my dressing every day and it was itchy and sore. I used Tegaderm anyway as I'm allergic to Mepore which was the alternative. My home dialysis nurse did some research and discovere...

Re: C-reactive protein

Hi Aileen. I don't know if you've heard from your consultant yet but it does sound like you might have a bit of an infection. I had peritonitis twice on APD. The first time my CRP was 57 and the second time it was 30. 20 therefore does sound like it could be an infection but thankfully you are alrea...

Transplant anniversary

On Monday I celebrated a year since my transplant. I can't believe it's a year already! I've been very lucky and my function sits around 57-59%. I'm feeling so much better now. It was hard following the op and it took a long time for me to really feel the benefit, but one day I just woke up and real...

Re: Parathyroid problems?

Hi I had parathyroid problems pre-transplant. I tried alfacalcidol on and off but it always made my calcium go too high so I had to keep coming off it. I didn't take it for the 2 years prior to my transplant last year and was about to go on the waiting list to have my parathyroid glands emoved when ...

Congratulations. I bet it hasn't sunk in properly yet. It took me ages before I stopped suddenly remembering that I'd had a transplant!

Thanks for letting us know. I don't know Lorna but hope all has gone well. You don't often see paired donations happening so it is good to see they are.

Re: Renagel/Sevelamer and nausea

Hi When did you last have your kidney function checked? I don't want to worry you and it might not be related but I just wondered if your recent sickness has had an effect on your function. It might be worth ringing your unit tomorrow to see if you can do a blood test to check it now, rather than wa...

Re: APD Line Removal

I'm sure that os fine. When you have a transplant, some units leave the pd tube in for a bit, just in case. Mine was in for 9 weeks before it was taken out and I was dry the whole time. Some units leave it longer before they take it out, I believe. You just need to keep it clean and change the dress...

Re: tx wound not healing

I had a similar problem with the bottom of my wound. Several doctors looked at it when I had clinic visits and just said it was just taking its time to heal. After 6 weeks I got a bit fed up and asked one of the transplant nurses to look at it. She said there was a bit of a stitch protruding a tiny ...
