Re: Finished NxStage training
Sounds fab! I love not looking ill all the time, never the less the feeling off being full, unable to breathe etc. I was in unit for 4 months this time round before going home and hated every single session. I disliked the way the staff treated pt's, especially long term ones like myself! I enjoy th...

Re: Parathyroid Gland
Without looking at previous bloods I'm not sure of exact figures but know it was very high, up in the hundreds!!! Mine kept regrowing but consultant confident all gone this time?!? None of my ops have lasted less than 2 hours tho.... Guess every surgeon has own way of doing things. Hope you get sort...

Re: Parathyroid Gland
Hello! PTH has been a proper issue for me - I had my 3rd parathyroidectomy last wk. Finally they think all glands gone :) Not a pleasant op but pain wise is ok - you wouldn't want it done under local!!! I had nucleur scan to find it - makes surgeons job easier. My op took just over 3hrs but can take...

Re: Finally started NxStage training
Hi Amanda, have you tried increasing temperature on pureflow? I always put my warm pj's on before, plus means clothing always weighs same - helps keep better control of dry weight. I have blanket & hot water bottle also :) The nx stage does get nosy ish esp when dialysate flow up high, turn tv u...

Re: Waste & rubbish
Hi, All my cardboard goes in recycling bin. I had an extra bin delivered as we have so much & they only collect fortnightly. Often asked to keep them for people who are moving etc. Clinical waste is weekly & they collect that with no problems...... Could your home nurse maybe write to counci...

Re: Effect on Children
Hi, Kids cope!! Not sure how but they do as long as things aren't hidden from them.... My daughter was similar age when my 1st tx failed, I did pd for while but hated it so went onto hd in local unit. Used to do Tues/Thurs/Sat mornings. On Tues & Thurs I would drop her at nursery about 8, dialys...

Re: Blown Graft
I agree... no need to blow needles unless careless. Staff too busy & make mistakes. I used to drive into unit car park & work out who's car was there then panic who would put me on. In the end I had hypnotherapy to help with needle phobia (would literally shake with tears streaming down face...

Re: Blown Graft
Hi Joy, OUCH.... I think all of us with fistula/grafts can relate to this unfortunately. I have a fistula & had many blows, however since needling myself this hasn't happened. I would recommend arnica cream & ice packs. It will go down, & painful though it is, every blow strengthens the ...

Re: How to get an overview by a different consultant.
Hi, I've had same consultant for 20+ yrs, however I still ask others for their opinion. My cons is one of 8 & we can freely ask alternative ones for their thoughts/advice. Has your daughter met another within the unit that she could approach? With all her complications surely she should have mul...

Re: wedding dialysis
Holiday dialysis is a bloody nightmare in UK, units so short staffed that a lot won't take holiday pts, speak to the closest unit & get the dates booked - even if you end up cancelling - you don't want anything affecting wedding!! Your employer isn't allowed to make your life any harder hun........

Re: wedding dialysis
Hi, I had holiday dialysis very long time ago @ Westmoreland & remember staying in Lake District and going to Gretna Green for day trip and it wasn't that far away. Could you get booked in & cancel if not needed....Don't leave dialysis to last min, better to start it when not really really s...
