Hi Emma.
My brother donated his kidney to me. He also did a 24 hour blood pressure test as well as heart scan. The 24-hour test was due to him having slightly above normal blood pressure when testing at hospital. The longer test showed everything was ok though.

Re: How many have returned to work after transplant?
I work a desk job also (software engineer), and I returned to work about 7 weeks after my transplant at a 50% pace. After one month of work I went back to working full time. I think it is fine physically but pretty draining mentally after being used to going home early from work and just taking thin...

Re: Age 27, Stage 2 GFR and foamy urine... HELP
As mentioned before, eGFR is a kind of blunt estimate, and variation is normal. As for a difference between 92 and 101 in creatinine, that is very small and can be explained by any number of factors such as sleep, how much you drank, how much you exercised before the test, how much protein you ate, ...

Re: Age 27, Stage 2 GFR and foamy urine... HELP
Hello Worrymint, If you have no protein in your urine, there should be no immediate cause for concern. I know from personal experience that urine can be foamy without kidney problems too (I have had that since long before I got my interstitial nephritis which led to chronic kidney disease). An eGFR ...

Re: Blood pressure + Vitamin K2
Wow, hadn't even considered the possibility that just having an AV fistula could be of benefit (before using it). I was offered many times now by my nurse to have the surgery done, but so far I've managed to postpone it. My goal is to tough it out until my planned transplant on October 12th. And con...

Re: Blood pressure
That is unfortunate, as Losartan also has some other benefits for protecting the kidneys as I understood it from my nephrologist (other than just lowering blood pressure). And also low risks of side effects. Luckily I'm doing fine with just 2x 12.5mg Losartan daily. BP around 120-130 over 60-70. Doe...

Re: New HLA-desensitization treatment
It is indeed very exciting research. I am also excited about the possibilities of CRISPR-Cas9. Just a few days ago several news sites reported about eliminating some retroviruses as well as some other materials in the organs of pigs which have been a show-stopper for pig->human transplants. With spe...

I do not take this specific medicine, but several of the ones I do state similar messages, like "Consult doctor before taking this if you have problems with kidney". But they were prescribed by my kidney doctor, so he has taken that into consideration. Did your doctor who prescribed your m...

Wonderful! That must be a big relief. I would be very sad if my brothers kidney function got worse as a result of donating to me.

Re: Do damaged kidneys feel sore?
As Daisy stated, a decline in kidney function is normally not felt in that way, but through other symptoms such as swelling, nausea, urinary problems, tiredness, etc. During my decline in kidney function I have had some aching sensations in my flank. Several times I told my doctor or nurse, and they...

Good to hear from you Paul. I'm glad the treatment is painless and going well so far. If one of the biggest concerns is being bored, thats a good sign .

I have also seen similar numbers for survival here in Sweden. Statistics for dialysis survival is not great, but as my neph. nurse told me, many people who start dialysis are elderly or have other illnesses which will skew the survival rates. She told me not to worry in case I would end up as a long...

Re: Best way to lose weight??
I would say it is pretty normal to gain weight when you start exercising. Even though you are burning through fat reserves, you will build up muscles which has a higher density (weighs more). How it will affect your weight in the long term depends mostly on how much calories you put in vs. how much ...
