Re: Useful kidney-related apps (e.g. for phone, iPad)

A useful App i have found is "My Food - Nutritional Facts" by Pomegranate software.
It can give potassium, sodium and phosphate levels for various meat, fruit and veg for different size portions. Very handy for Kidney patients!

Re: Restless legs...any help?

Hi Pam, I get restless legs occasionally too, and as mentioned exercise does seem to help. I've noticed that its often worse if my PTH levels are up (Para-Thyroid Hormone), don't know if thats the case with everyone though. I've been given Clonazipan by the doctors which I would guess is the same fa...

Re: Time for Benefits support for renal patients?

You have my sympathy! I've been looking for employment since about Nov 2010 and met with no success so far. I wrote to my local MP asking what her advice is for a renal patient who would like to return to work considering the shake up of all benefits on the near horizon. She wrote back suggesting th...

Its strange, gout is common with people with Kidney disease, but the treatment seems to vary quiet a lot! Speaking as someone who has really bad attacks (feet, hands knees and shoulder -sounds like a song I knew as a kid...) I'm on a low dose of allipurinol (100mg) once a day and colchicine up to 3 ...

Hi Amanda I was on Nifedipine a long time ago, and if I remember correctly after a long period of use it sent my haemoglobin levels crazy and they changed me to another drug. Can't remember it making me ill but BP pills can all have the side effect of making you feel fatigued. I'm now on Labetalol w...

I remember when I was on PD I was given what looked like a colostomy bag (!) that kind of glued around the site creating a seal and the pd cathetar coiled up inside the bag. It was quite effective but I never plucked up the courage to go swimming with it as I was very self conscious! If I remember r...

I'm sorry for you both that things had moved on so far without having found out about this problem. I remember all the phsycing up both mum and I went through on the run up to my first tx, and to have it called off now at this late stage must be a terrific blow. But as has been mentioned: its a good...

I'd also be very interested to hear about any links with diabetic meds and renal failure as my grandfather (82) is also diabetic and his renal function is deteriorating. I beleive he's on metformin/glucophage. My worry also extends to my father as well who also type 2 diabetic and on the same drug b...

Hi Nicola, Amanda I too had kidney failure due to repeated tonsilitis when I was 19. I remember being very bitter about it at the time. My friends were all out getting drunk and erm...... meeting people of the opposite sex. I was lonely and isolated by my illness. I did PD to enable me to finish col...
