Re: NxStage
Brilliant news! I'm very pleased that the needling is going well as that's the thing I have greatest difficulty with as I heal up overnight. I still have to plug the holes and the other problem is that my artery/veins move around. My only consolation is that the staff can't do it either. Apart from...

Re: Mega itching, very frustrating!
Anyone know what can be causing this? I know it's a symptom of CKD, but how can I help to alleviate it? It's getting quite bad where last night I couldn't sleep because I was itching all over! Also I just re-read the Losartan leaflet and it says on it, If you experience the following, stop taking L...

Re: Nephrologist Help Please
Many factors can determine your creatinine level. This includes if you are dehydrated even drinking too much fluid. As the other person stated, creatinine is also affected by muscle mass. Those with more muscle will tend to have a higher creatinine level. Do you take any supplements ? There are many...

Re: NxStage
Hi M3R I have buttonholes but the dull needles still don't work. They tried without buttonholes a couple of days ago and I healed up very fast. That wasn't too nice an experience having cannulas inserted! Today they have upped the gauge to 14 and buttonholes are back. Even with buttonholes I have a...

Re: Blood transfusions and kidney transplants
Off the topic of your case, I think there are some interesting considerations about the whole issue of blood transfusions. I read that blood in a blood bank is kept for up to 40 odd days. It must therefore be possible to arrange that your own blood is take in the time building up to the op and kept...

Re: Blood transfusions and kidney transplants
It is true that transfusions can create antibodies. They can check to see the antibody level. There are also methods available that can help reduce the antibody level. How old are the twins now and when are they suspected to have the kidney issues?

Re: NxStage
M3R Hi, yes by needling that is what I meant. I have no problem sticking the cannular into the arterial but the venous is in a very difficult position for me and keeps blowing for the staff. I want to do it myself and not rely on anyone else. Scarily my husband is keen to stick the cannulars into m...

jan4alan,
Have you ever considered cannulating yourself? In my opinion, most that stick the patients in center are anything but cannulation experts. The best person is you!! Many centers in the US are now teaching patients to stick themsevles - especially if they will be doing home hemo.

Re: Any ideas/advice/help please
Sweetie, A few questions. What is your husbands hemoglobin? How is his Iron levels? ( you need normal iron levels for the epo to work) What is his creatinine and BUN ? ( these can cause some of the symptoms as well) My opinion is that your husband is not receiving enouph dialysis. If you are not rec...

Re: Op Date/neckline/TX surgeon
So things have moved on quickly after so much tie spent waiting. Had calls today from the TX coordinator about meeting the TX surgeon on 23rd of Oct, which was a nice call. I had a call from my renal unit asking me to come in this friday (12th october) to have bloods taken, clotting bloods! All so ...

Re: Home Dialysis Machine
TheCat2008, The amount of time and the number of days will be dertermined by you and your doctor. Everyone is different and this is something that the doc will go over with you. One thing to remember is that longer, slower dialysis is a lot gentler on the body than high blood flows. Remember, the ki...
