Hi, I had two unsuccessful fistula's on my wrist before the surgeon gave up. On the third occasion, he changed tact and operated on my dominant right elbow area. Thankfully its still working well, 9 weeks later. It does seem that small veins do lead to an increase failure rate, perhaps more research...

Hi Claire, I live just down the road from Salford Royal, so very convenient!. The clinic I go to is for people who are nearing dialysis, that is a GFR OF 20 and below. Four weeks ago, I was down to 10, I won't find out if I've gone down any more until my letter arrives. I'm sad that I don't see my n...

Hi Claire, I use to be under Dr Waldek too, and you're right, he certainly knew his stuff, although I have deteriorated more than he thought - but hey, medicine isn't always predictable. Dr Donne is my named Consultant, she really is excellent - the best doctor I've ever met. I use to see her all th...

Thanks for that Claire. I've just realised that we go to the same hospital - I go on a Wednesday morning. To be honest, I didn't realised that the nurses would let you request certain doctors. I may give it a go, because I really hate the present pooled system.

Hi Carol, I go every month now too. What makes it worst, is that I'd previously built up a very good relationship with my Consultant, and even though she's always in the clinic, I haven't seen her since January......so insensitive!. And my last visit on Wednesday was very stressful, the doctor spoke...

Pooled Appointment System

Hi, I attend a renal department with a pooled appointment system, this means that although I do have a named Consultant, I usually end up seeing who ever happens to pick up my file. Often, over several months I see a succession of Specialist who I've never seen before, and probably will never see ag...

Hi jenx I was diagnosed very early on, but its only in the last 18 months that I've been aware that I'm probably heading for dialysis. Before my present Consultant took over my case, I was constantly told that I would never need dialysis. I get on very well with my present Consultant - she's a star!...

Loss of appetite

Hi, The renal nurse from my local hospital kindly came to see me today. I mentioned that in the last ten days, I've lost any sense of feeling hungry. I first noticed this a few days ago when I realised that I hadn't eaten for 14 hours, but still felt full. I also feel exhausted sometimes too. Howeve...

Hi Keith

I'm sorry, I only know what my creatinine, eGFR and phosphate is. My phosphate is 1.7 which I gather is higher than Ideal.

Hi Thanks for the info. Its just that I thought that I shouldn't be feeling as listless as I do. I mean 300 isn't that bad. I've lost a stone in weight in about a month and I'm anaemic. But hopefully I'll feel better when and if I'm put on EPO at my next appointment in 3 months. My eGFR has fallen b...

Hi,

Thanks for that. According to the calculator my eGFR is about where it should be for 300. I know its difficult, but can anyone guess how long I have left before dialysis?

Question about my Creatinine and eGFR

Hi I went off to the hospital on Wednesday, and I was wondering if members could answer this question? Does a eGFR of 19 sound reasonable when my Creatinine is 300, or is the eGFR too low? I'm beginning to loose wieght, and I was thinking if my consulatant may go for dialysis sooner than she would n...
