Re: Thoughts please
Hi Mart. I'm only eight months post transplant, but I've never been below 135 and that was just seven weeks post-op. You've only fluctuated 20% and so I guess they are being cautious. I'm on three weekly tests and can fluctuate 20%. One thing that caught my eye was that you drink 4-6l a day. I was t...

Re: Transplant booked!!!
Yes it is difficult to plan. I was discharged five days after transplant. After a few days at home, I was getting bored and was able to do some work remotely on the pc. My work is office-based and the office weren't happy with me doing that, but I was only doing some 'housework' activities to give m...

Hello DocRoc. I was also prescribed Lercandipine pre-transplant when my eGFR was much lower. Not aware of it causing any issues.

Re: Holidays on PD
Hi Maggie. I was with Baxters and didn't use a travel agent. I was on APD with a machine at home, but would use the manual bags when away. I would pick a relatively popular area that had direct flights with short transfers to minimise travel time and that Baxters could deliver to. Then I emailed a f...

Re: Securing PD Catheter
I tried it in various positions - side, front, horizontal, vertical, clockwise, anti-clockwise. My nurse said to use whatever is comfortable. I found that I would occasionally bang it with my arm when it was on my side and found the mepore stuck better when it was horizontal on my belly.

Re: Which transplant centre, Plymouth or Bristol? Thoughts p
Hi Dixie. I had a transplant in Southmead on 20/2. I cannot fault the staff and enjoyed their company. The building is new, although some of the plumbing needed attention, there was a lack of remote controls for the tellies and food was not good. I was in and out in five days, so everything went smo...

Re: Night Sweats
I've been getting these post transplant. I've not been getting much sleep as well. Never used to sweat much before, so not used to smelling sweaty. Suspect the steroids might be to blame.

Re: transplanted
Thanks for the support. Since my post, the blood tests have fluctuated a little but not shown any overall improvement. The medical team have thought about an ultrasound scan, but decided against it for now. My Tacro readings have meant a slight reduction in that drug. I'm not in any pain though and ...

Re: Top Tips for those going in to have a tx
One thing that caught me out was that I was asked to take a day's worth of dialysis fluids etc as the transplant hospital are with fresnius and I was with baxters. That more than doubled my baggage and made using public transport difficult.

Well it's happened. I telephoned Southmead on Monday 20/2 as I was due to see them for the first time since I went on the list two years ago. The only time I have spoken to them in that time was to order more blood sample tubes. They said it wasn't worth discussing that as they might have a kidney f...

Re: Very low initial drain on APD
On my Baxters machine there is an I-Drain volume alarm. It was set by my nurse initially. I would ask your nurse/unit if it needs to be set.

Re: Very low initial drain on APD
Having only drained 7ml, didn't it alarm before the fill?
I struggled with my initial drains when I started, but not to that extent. When it alarms, I have tried all sorts of peculiar positions as well as rocking myself to try and move things.

Hi.
I tend to stand for the initial drain and lie down for the rest. Has he tried different positions for the initial drain?
