Welcome to the US
Hi Jen, Your employer pays the premium, not you. :D I came to the US with an E-1 visa (work permit) and got coverage from the first day. All I had to pay was a few dollars co-pay for meds. I was eligible for transplant, but the waiting list here is about 5 years, depends where you live. You have to ...

Hi everyone, Good idea jenejen. I think that the purpose of opt-out should be to make people think and talk about organ donation. We shouldn't make people think that the government is going to steal their organs or that we are waiting for their death. We need their sympathy, not their antagonism. No...

Nelly, I don't want to spoil your party but 3.1 is too low, and surely it was below 3 yesterday. The low limit for K is 3.5 and low K is as dangerous as high K. One time after my transplant I came to the clinic with K 2.6. They looked at me as if I was going to drop dead any second. They imm...

I am almost 5 years post tx and take 20 mg furosemide every day, plus 2.5 mg zaroxolyn every 3-5 days. With that I can drink 6 cups a day. If I drink more it stays. :( I used to take 40 mg but then I started to hear beeps and whistles.... (Tinnitus). For 10 months after tx I couldn't put on my shoes...

Hello my friends, The question doesn't say what kind of dialysis. Pure water will do a better job of absorbing waste and electrolytes. So much better that the patient will die of low potassium or sodium or calcium. To avoid that, the dialysate contains these electrolytes in the desired concentration...

Hi James, If the kidney removes it you have to refill it.... :D The transplanted kidney works by its own rules. If you drink too little you'll be dehydrated and if you drink too much you'll retain it. :( My advice: buy yourself an accurate digital scale. Like Ruth I drink about 1.5 liter a day and I...

I Cannot drink more than 2-2.5 liters a day, and even that with diuretics. During the day my ankles get swollen and I sleep with a pillow under my legs, so they are okay in the morning. I take 20-30 mg lasix a day and zaroxolyn occasionally. I write down everything I drink and check my weight a few ...
