Re: Anyone with Kimura's disease?
Oh I'm only on 50mg the first week, then 37, 25, the following two weeks, I'm just finishing the 50 week tomorrow.. I'll stay on 12.5 then for four months perhaps tapering after that. The initial high dose is just to try and smash things into order while the tacrolimus levels come up. Do all you gu...

Re: How I cured my glomerulonephritis
Wagolyn I do have the blessing of my hematologist on this diet, he doesn't think I need to do zero carb but thinks sugar free low carb (low enough to stay in ketosis) would be enough to get more sustainable results. My liver function is really good which is the organ that does most of the work on th...

Re: How I cured my glomerulonephritis
Wagolyn, I'm aware the heart is muscle and I've thought about that, but you see I have a disease no one knows the cause and no adult has ever been cured of it. It's not even known to be auto immune.. Mine started at a stressful time in my life so I guess something simply broke in my dna. But.. It ca...

Re: How I cured my glomerulonephritis
My egfr dropped to 40 after my last post so after reading a bit on fructose and other sugars damaging kidneys and the prospect of a biopsy in my near future I went on a almost zero carb reaserch type ketogenic diet,. I got the egfr to 90 after 3 weeks and its remained there. I got off the tacrolimus...

Re: How I cured my glomerulonephritis
The thing is kidney disease is mostly a side effect of an autoimmune or other type of disease (most of the time). So for most people that's the thing you need to find out about and treat/fix. For me it started with celiac disease, then quite bad gut damage sent my immune system out of control, that'...

Re: How I cured my glomerulonephritis
Johnmac11, I appreciate the effort you put into your post even if no one else did. Your right, you can try and explain the detrimental effects of eating inflammatory foods until you are blue in the face but most people don't want to believe it because its hard for them to break the habit. I've read...

Re: Can diet and exercise reverse kidney failure
The kidneys can heal from minor damage and from inflammation but scar tissue is scar tissue. Long story short, yes you can improve them if you can stop the disease that's damaging them. Priority one is controlling the disease though (for me that means immune suppression and a grain free diet). Even ...

Re: Anyone with Kimura's disease?
I just came to update this. Have been on tacrolimus for eight months, improved my diet a bit more and I'm in remission from Kimuras disease. eGFR is currently 90 (was down to 50 a year ago). I couldn't complain about the tacrolimus, its been a wonder drug for me. I'm on 4mg of prednisone still (very...

Re: How I cured my glomerulonephritis
Well nothing new about improving kidney function via fixing the immune system disease causing the damage. My GFR has improved from 50 to 90 in the last 12 months. Just taking tacrolimus to stop my immune disease and stopping eating all inflammatory foods is all I've done (ie I don't eat any grains, ...

Re: Hair loss - Tacrolimus V's Cycosporin
Ive got no hair loss problems ftom tacro so far been on it four months. Its less toxic than cyclosporin so dont change drug. Tacrolimus causes some minerals to run low in the body and efects vitamin d etc. The side effects are more likely those things than the drug itself imho.

Re: Tacrolimus
My hair is slightly thinning on tacrolimus although I must mention that I'm no longer on zyrtec and the zyrtec was causing a gradual but considerable thickening of my hair. So I'm not sure if I should really blame the tacro or stopping zyrtec:).

Re: Tired all the time
I've found over the years a vitamin b12 shot will kick life back into a tired soul like nothing else. I can go from near death to feeling 20 within two days. Especially with a double shot within days of the first. Well worth trying, its not something that shows up on tests, you just have to try it.

Re: What caused your kidney disease?
Shep, my doctor was worried I might develop amyloidosis because of immune system dysfunction, I was having polyclonal cells in one blood test. They have gone away now with the drugs thankfully. But still there always has to be a background disease or lifestyle reason for it. If not a background dise...

Re: hydration effect on gfr
Over the past six months I've had egfr readings of 78, (suffered severe food poisoning here) 65, 54, (sick with an infection here) 90+, 80, (started tacrolimus here) 74. It's pretty variable and random. Over the longer term I've been tested its been very stable in the high 70s for eight years. Noti...
