painful muscles
I have been decreasing the dose of prednisolone from 20 and will be down to 5mg per day by Friday, obviously following neph's directions. For the past three weeks I have had severe pain at the top of my thigh so bad I can hardly walk. One leg got better almost straight away but the other got worse. ...

Re: Mum recently started dialysis
From my very first session of HD, me and hemo hated each other. I had a first time reaction which landed me in hospital for a week. It was rare for me not to 'go off' during a hemo session. Nobody ever found out what was causing it in my case, but here are some of the things that were tried: Nothing...

My creatinine was in the 600s with urea of 39.4 when I started dialysis. My efgr was 6%.

Re: I finally got the call!
Great news especially after waiting such a long time. I had my stent out on Friday, take a tramadol before you go, I did and I hardly felt it come out. Yes I think four week "downers' are rather common. You feel a bit guilty that you're not as grateful as you feel you should be and you are not ...

Re: tx wound not healing
I think the initial problem was that it was leeking so much sirus fluid it couldn't heal. I think the other problem is that my tummy is still swollen a bit (wasn't flat before the op tho!) and when I bend it forces it open. I think i'll just have to be patient but keep an eye on it.

tx wound not healing
I'm almost five weeks post transplant and the top bit of my wound is gaping a bit. It's red at the edges and not gaping as in cravass but is definitely open. The nurse gave me new dressings, iodine strips, saline tubes for cleaning and gloves to keep things sterile (even gave me scissors with cleani...

Re: waterproof covers for necklines
We were given a waterproof dressing that lasted a week of me showering every day. They were great as long as you didnt "soap' them too much which made them curl up at the edges. I dont use them any more but someone who dialyses at James Cook might know the name of them and you could always ask ...

Re: problems catheterising
I think you need to speak to the professionals about this. As far as I am aware the catheter just needs to go far enough into the bladder to allow a flow, it should not need to go any further than that.

Last week they told me that dogs weere okay, just observe good hygiene practises and dont let them lick your face. Apparently they dont like you to have birds cos they carry more disease (eg pigeons etc).

transplanted kidney function
I attended my first out patients appointment yesterday after the tx and the bloods showed efgr of 40%. It will be three weeks tomorrow since the op. I know it will depend on everyone and their individual graft but I was wondering what function other people had achieved. Personally I'm chuffed to bit...

Re: post tx drug effects
Hi Andy, saw you on TV after your new tx the other week. Hardly recognised you without the hat! Congratulations by the way. My right leg is numb from just above the knee to the top of my thigh and also along my 'private' area. Its not painful but if I touch it it feels like pins and needles. I remem...

Re: post tx drug effects
Thanks, nice to know its not permanent. Still, its early days and I've learned from other posts that recovery tends not to be as quick as we impatient people would wish. Hopefully once my blood stats are stable I'll feel better. Might sound silly but as I was only on the list for six days before get...
